Access Control & Entry
Access Control
Let the right people in to keep the wrong people out
We offer both audio-only door entry, along with video and audio door entry. These will ring the respective handset(s) and allow an operator to interrogate the visitor, and either allow or deny them access into the building.
These systems can also contain Access Control readers or biometric sensors such as facial recognition and fingerprint, so that staff or homeowners are always allowed in.
These access control systems can control internal doors, external doors, vehicle gates and barriers, pedestrian gates, and speed gates and they can even be integrated into the intruder alarm to simplify arming and disarming. They can further be integrated into the CCTV to provide important views when they matter.
Optionally the door controllers can be fitted with a backup battery to provide 24/7 control even in the event of a power cut.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is Access Control?
Access Control is a method by which people are restricted into what areas of a building they can access. We implement electronic access control solutions, tailor-made to your applications. Roles can be set against different access groups, allowing different members of staff, or visitors to only access areas they are allowed to access.
Do I need Access Control?
Door access control systems allow building managers to control the movement of people, visitors, and staff through certain areas. This also allows for time & attendance reports, fire roll calls and last known positions of staff. Access control installation is becoming a more common necessity in lots of building types – from factories to schools – commercial access control systems are the answer.
Door Access Control Compliance
Why Choose Us?
As access control installers, we know the right way to do things. Some access control companies install the incorrect hardware which becomes very important when dealing with fire escapes and doors along fire routes. We understand these requirements and can help you decide upon the best solution for you. Most installers will quote you for a magnetic lock, and sometimes it works, but you should be aware of the following:
- Building Regulations 2010 say there must be a minimum clear headroom of 2m – maglocks sometimes project below this.
- BS EN 1125 2008 says that “Experience relating to escape from buildings and general safety have made it desirable that doors at final exits in public buildings, places of entertainment, shops, etc should be fitted with panic devices operated by a horizontal bar. The emphasis for products covered by this standard is on safe exit rather than security.”
- If fitted to a fire door, the lock must be tested with the door set. See EN14846.
- EN179 & EN1125 state that a door which is electronically controlled must have a mechanical means of escape.
There are ‘standards’ in place. But we believe in the unfortunate reality that change will not be implemented by law, until a tragedy. See EN179, EN1125, EN13637. Mag locks are also inherently insecure. Most can be forced open if provided with enough of a jolt.
Automatic Gates and Barriers
From domestic-style gates to commercial vehicle and pedestrian access, Ballum Security can offer and implement a solution for you.
We provide a one-stop-shop for vehicle and pedestrian gates and barriers as we can also provide the links to access control via key cards, fobs, ANPR, codes and even facial recognition. We generally use FAAC equipment, a well-known and well-established brand founded in 1971.
